Construction in the alley between Thomas and Harrison Street has formally started! The first phase of construction will be installing two Seattle City Light vaults in the alley. We expect installation to be completed by next Tuesday, 1/26. On Wednesday, 1/27, construction of a trench that will eventually run the entire length of the alley will start. This first trench, for Seattle City Light high voltage conduit, will start on the south end of the alley and move north over the next month. We anticipate this first trench to be completed by the end of February, but will continue to keep you updated as construction progresses.
On Monday, January 11th, before construction begins on the new Cora Apartments at 19 W Harrison, our crews will start surface demolition and saw cutting in the alley between Thomas & Harrison Street. The work will start on the south end of the alley and move north over the next several months. The purpose of the work is to underground existing overhead power and communication lines in the alley. We anticipate the alley work will take approximately three months, but we will continue to provide updates as construction progresses. Additionally, demolition of the existing Kaspars building is targeted for the end of January, continuing into early February.
Throughout the alley work, we will maintain local access to all residents on the east side of the alley, but it will be closed to all thru traffic. We are committed to working with the neighborhood and local residents to mitigate the impacts of construction as much as possible. To that end, we will continue to post updates here on construction activities and what to expect in upcoming weeks.
The Cora Apartments, in the Uptown neighborhood at 19 W Harrison Street, will provide the comforts of home in the heart of urban surroundings. The Cora Apartments will feature ample space to relax and unwind with open floor plan units and floor-to-ceiling windows. As well as comfortable units, the Cora Apartments will have a fitness center, dog grooming station and spacious rooftop deck with BBQs, a dog-run and incredible views of Elliott Bay:
Construction is anticipated to start on January 11, 2016. The first activity you will see is utility work in the alley on the east side of the site between Thomas Street and 100’ north of Harrison Street moving up the alley. The work will underground the existing overhead power and communication lines running down the alley and north across Harrison Street. Demolition of the vacant Kaspars building is scheduled for late December 2015 and excavation is scheduled to start in early February 2016, with first units available for occupancy in May 2017.
